I had the pleasure of returning to where it all started to deliver a talk and demo for @societyofbookbindersnortheast delving into bookbinding structures from around the world at @litandphil and it was a wonderful reunion with Chris who taught me how to bind my first book and see the room where it all started 19 years ago.
I was an eager fine art student who wanted to learn how to bind, at a time when there were no courses sharing the craft. Enter @litandphil a group of bookbinders who were tasked to repair the books in the library. I was a regular at their Monday evening sessions and learned how to make two books (Coptic and French link in case you were wondering!)
Fast forward to now and I’ve literally made my whole art career around the structure of the book and I still haven’t learned it all yet. It really is a lifelong obsession , hobby, job!
It all started here and it was an absolute pleasure to return. I promise not to make it quite so long before I’m back again.
